Experience Matters. Compassion Counts.
My name is Deborah Humphreys.
I have 30 years of past experience as a family law lawyer and now in my capacity as a mediator.
Throughout those years, I saw how traditional divorce processes can escalate conflict, cost tens of thousands in legal fees, and leave families emotionally and financially drained.
Next Chapter Mediation is my response to that system. I work primarily with clients are 45 and older - people with real estate, pensions, retirement savings, and sometimes grown children - who want to separate responsibly and preserve their futures.
I bring not just legal knowledge, but the calm and structure needed to guide couples toward practical, lasting solutions. My approach is focused, efficient, and deeply respectful.
As a certified mediator trained by the Stitt Feld Handy Group, a division of the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, I bring specialized expertise in principled negotiation and alternative dispute resolution. My training is grounded in the seven elements of principled mediation - interests, options, legitimacy, communication, relationship, alternatives, and commitment - which form the foundation of my approach to resolving disputes effectively and respectfully.
With a focus on collaborative problem-solving, I help clients move beyond entrenched positions to uncover common ground and reach durable, mutually beneficial agreements. Whether addressing family matters such as separation, property division, parenting arrangements, or intergenerational disputes over shared assets, my goal is to preserve relationships while guiding parties toward practical, fair, and forward-looking solutions.
